About me
Hi! I’m Margo
Thank you for having a look at My Family Tree and Me. Here’s a little of my history and genealogical journey.
My parents migrated from the Netherlands to Sydney, Australia in 1956. A new land and no local family was a common story. The stories they shared of being children in WWII and navigating the cultural differences of two lands will resonate forever.
For around 20 years I was in the printing-pre press industry, retouching and putting publications together to get to the press in time! This was a manual trade in 1979 with darkrooms and film processing and pretty awful chemicals but it was also driven by many kind and creative people who's skills were unbelievable and now all but forgotten. Technology drove the digital revolution from the 1980's and the trade is smaller now, but the history is big!
In the late 1990's I became an Adobe Channel Partner, specialising in sales of desktop publishing software and by 1999 started an Apple Solutions Reseller retail shop in Avalon, launching the business with Apple’s '5 fruity coloured iMacs' and growing the business to become a service centre as well. For over 20 years this was an incredible journey and with such impactful changes in the way we do just about everything. Helping over 20K clients manage their media and data was sometimes no easy task! … but their rich stories, experiences and intriguing lives opened the door to delve deeper.
Many years of research and being interested in my own family history led me to complete a Diploma of Family History at UTAS.
I hope I can take the journey with you to discover and embrace your family history and introduce you to your ancestors.
Enjoy the ride!
Margo
